Les Feldick Bible Study

Did the disciples know the Scripture that Jesus must rise from the dead before they believed?

No. The Twelve understood none of these things, and the saying was hidden from them. They had no idea He would die and rise, and even on resurrection morning they as yet knew not the Scripture that He must rise again from the dead.

Les explains that the Twelve understood none of these things; the saying was hid from them, so they had no idea He was going to die on the Roman cross. Even though Jesus told them plainly, God kept it secret. On resurrection morning, Peter and John ran to the empty sepulcher after Mary Magdalene reported it. John saw and believed, yet the next verse says as yet they knew not the Scripture that He must rise again from the dead. They didn't know.

John 20:9

For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
