How can believers live pleasing to God without rules and regulations?

Believers live pleasing to God by the power of the Holy Spirit under grace, not by being confined to any legal system. They have been set free from rules and regulations that dictate what they can or cannot do, and this liberty is not a license but a Spirit-empowered life.

Les explains that while grace is not license, believers are not confined to any legal system of “you can't do this, you can't do that.” Having been set free from all of it, they can now, through the power of the Holy Spirit—something the law had nothing of—live under grace and be pleasing in God's eyes without external rules and regulations. This is the central idea of the letter, illustrated by Paul's analogy from Greek and Roman culture: a child heir, though lord of all, differs nothing from a slave until the time of tutoring is finished.
