In the Roman tutor illustration, how does the fully prepared son come to his father?
The fully prepared son does not come cowering like a frightened puppy afraid of his father. Having been well tutored, he is now a prepared young man who comes right in to work alongside the father, ready to step in as a co-equal adult son.
Les explains that the Greek or Roman tutor had the child completely ready as an adult son to step in and be co-equal with the Father. The son does not have to come in like a little puppy dog, almost afraid of Old Dad. Instead, he is a prepared young man, well tutored and ready to come right in and work alongside the Father. Les applies this to believers: by virtue of the work of the Cross, God can place us as full, completely tutored sons of God, able to come right in alongside Him. That is our position, even while we are on earth under the curse, because in faith we see we are already in the exalted position in the heavenlies and joint heirs with Christ. He connects this with Romans 8 and the Spirit of Adoption, whereby we cry, Abba Father.
