Les Feldick Bible Study

What are believers baptized into, according to this teaching?

According to this teaching, believers are baptized into Jesus Christ—not into a denomination or a church. Being placed in Christ means they are identified with His death, buried with Him, and resurrected with Him to new life, all by God's power, not by water baptism.

Les explains that believers are not baptized into a denomination or into a church, but into Jesus Christ. If a person has been placed in Christ, then before getting there they had to be identified with His death. When Christ died, God saw every one of us on the cross in the person of Christ; He died in our place, and God saw us crucified. This is what Galatians 2 means by “I have been crucified with Christ.” Just as God saw us on the cross in Christ, He also saw us in the tomb, buried with Him—not by water, but by virtue of God determining that, since He had paid the sin debt for all, and for those who believe and appropriate it, He says, “You're dead. You're crucified. I saw you in Christ. I saw you buried with Him in His death, in His tomb.” Les further teaches that we have also been resurrected with Him to a new life, totally different people as a result of the power of His resurrection. It is a God thing: God in His omnipotence, power, omniscience, and ability to work in the invisible has placed us in all of these places, having seen every one of us crucified with Christ.
