What is the single reason people end up in the lake of fire?
Every individual who ends up in the lake of fire will be there for one reason: unbelief. The determination of their punishment will be according to the works they have done, but the cause of their being there is one word, unbelief. Unbelief is the single reason.
Les teaches that the Israelites did not take Canaan because of unbelief, even though God had said, go in and take it. They asked to send spies, and God condescended, but the root problem was unbelief. He then applies that same principle to eternal punishment: every individual who one day ends up in the lake of fire will be there for one reason—unbelief. The determination of their punishment will be according to their works, but the cause of their being there is one word: unbelief. Les also asks why even our own beloved nation is turning its back upon this Word, and answers, unbelief.
