Les Feldick Bible Study

What would happen to God's covenants if Israel were set aside permanently?

If Israel were permanently set aside and of no more count in God’s eyes, then all the covenants would fall apart. They will not, however, because God is not through with Israel; He has not finished His covenant promises and will still finish and fulfill them.

Les explains that the covenant promise made to Abraham was spiritual and heavenly in origin; it never left the hands of spiritual beings. Abraham became its subject but could not touch or change it. Even though his offspring would break it repeatedly, God kept it settled and will never go back on it. That is why Les says we can have full confidence that God is not through with Israel and has not finished His covenant promises with them. If Israel were off the board and of no more count in God’s eyes, as much of Christendom claims, then all the covenants would fall apart. But they will not, because God is not through with Israel and will still finish and fulfill those covenant promises. In the same context, Les notes that a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. In human disputes a mediator helps two parties reach agreement, but God does not use a three-person mediation; He is the mediator, the instigator, and the fulfiller, and He alone is involved.
