Why was the earth so corrupt and violent in the days of Noah?

In the days of Noah the earth was corrupt and filled with violence because there was no law, no system of worship, and no ritual to deter men; all flesh had corrupted its way, so corruption and violence went unchecked.

Les explains that the earth in Noah’s day was corrupt and violent because there was nothing to deter it. God looked upon the earth and saw that it was corrupt, and all flesh had corrupted its way. He told Noah the earth was filled with violence and the end of all flesh had come. There was no law, no system of worship, and no ritual for men to follow, so corruption and violence went unchecked. After the Flood, humanity again headed down the same road to Babel, embracing pagan worship and immorality. Les notes that Scripture repeats these descriptions for emphasis, and that as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be at the coming of the Son of Man.

Genesis 6:12

And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

Genesis 6:13

And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
