What are examples of things the Holy Spirit would never tell someone to do?
The Holy Spirit never instructs anyone to do something contrary to the Law. The examples given are committing adultery, stealing, and coveting. The Spirit guides and directs believers, but He does not lead them into license or permissiveness, because He takes the place of the Law in this Age of Grace.
Les explains that in this Age of Grace God saves by faith plus nothing, and believers are separated from the Law but not set loose on a sea of license and permissiveness. Instead of the Law, the Holy Spirit guides and directs. Les rejects claims that Jesus appeared and told someone to murder somebody, saying that is not what we are talking about. The Holy Spirit never, never ever instructs someone to do something contrary to the Law. He will never tell someone to commit adultery, never tell someone to steal, and never tell someone to covet. Thus the Spirit takes the place of the Law, and we serve in newness of Spirit, not in the oldness of the letter (Romans chapter 6).
