Les Feldick Bible Study

How are we supposed to serve God now that we are delivered from the Law?

We serve God in newness of the Spirit, not in the oldness of the letter. Since the Holy Spirit takes the place of the Law for believers under Grace, He guides and directs us, and He never instructs anyone to do anything contrary to the Law.

Les explains that being delivered from the Law means we were held dead spiritually, so we should serve in newness of Spirit. The newness of Spirit is the Holy Spirit. In this Age of Grace, God saves us by faith plus nothing. We are separated from the Law, but we are not set loose on a sea of license and permissiveness. In place of the Law, the Holy Spirit guides and directs us. Les warns that people claiming Jesus told them to murder somebody are not describing the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit never instructs someone to do something contrary to the Law—never adultery, stealing, or coveting. So this becomes our Law, if you want to call it that, but it is not Law; it is the Spirit. We are no longer under the Law, we are under Grace, and the Holy Spirit takes the place of the Law. Reading Romans chapter 6, we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter, meaning the Law. Galatians chapter 3 verse 14 then speaks of the blessings of Abraham.

Romans 7:6

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
