In what newness should we serve after being delivered from the law?

After being delivered from the law, believers should serve in newness of spirit. This means serving under the control of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, and the Creator God Himself, rather than in the oldness of the letter or the law.

Les explains that the "but" in verse 6 marks the flip side. Whereas old Adam did nothing but generate sins that became fruit unto death, now the believer is delivered from the law, being dead wherein we were held under old Adam and under the curse. The result is that we should serve in newness of spirit, under the control of the Holy Spirit, under the control of the Word of God, under the control of the Creator God Himself, and not in the oldness of the letter or the law.

Romans 7:6

But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
