Did Abraham expect a resurrection and Israel's redemption when the Messiah came?

Yes, the concept of resurrection and Israel coming into a place of redemption was on Abraham's mind when Messiah should come. However, Abraham had no concept of associating it with a death, burial, and resurrection, or the shedding of Christ's atoning blood, because God did not expect them to die.

Les explains that while Abraham and the patriarchs had some things mixed up, the concept of resurrection and Israel coming into a place of redemption was certainly on Abraham's mind when Messiah should come. But they could not associate that hope with a death, burial, and resurrection, or the shedding of the atoning blood of Christ, because God did not expect them to die. Les then moves to Galatians 3, noting that those who come into a right relationship by faith plus nothing are blessed with Abraham, the man of faith, who was the friend of God.
