Les Feldick Bible Study

What actually makes a person a Jew?

A person is a Jew first and foremost by birth, genetics, and bloodline, and also by being an adherent of Judaism and keeping the Law. Gentiles remain Gentiles even after salvation; salvation does not make them Jews. They are saved by grace but remain Gentiles.

Les teaches that many people have been told that when they become a Christian they become a Jew, but he says that is way out in left field. He explains that a Jew is a Jew first and foremost by birth, genetics, and bloodline, and also by being an adherent of Judaism and keeping the Law. A Gentile is a Gentile; if saved, a Gentile is simply a sinner Gentile saved by grace and is not a Jew. Les notes that when people point to Galatians 3:7—which says those of faith are the children or sons of Abraham—they must not take it out of context. The verse means believers who entered by faith plus nothing, like Abraham, are spiritually connected to Abraham, not that they become Jews.
