What made it possible for me to be saved in the first place?

God's grace—His unmerited favor—made it possible for you to be saved in the first place. You did not deserve it, and it was not based on merit. That same grace keeps those who are His, and they stand before Him blameless because of the grace of God, not human worthiness.

Les teaches that when he asked what part of God made it possible to be saved, the answer was “His grace.” The person did not deserve it, and that same grace keeps those who are His even though we don't deserve it. None of us deserve to stay saved, but we do because of His grace, if we have been truly saved in the first place. Les explains that believers stand before Him blameless because of the grace of God, that unmerited favor. This is not license; grace does not tell the believer to go out and do what they please. When a believer under the power of the Holy Spirit tries to walk pleasing in God's sight and fails, God does not kick him out. Les uses the illustration of a parent whose little one takes first faltering steps: when the child falls, the parent picks him up and gets him going again. That is what God does.
