Les Feldick Bible Study

Who else followed Peter's hypocrisy at Antioch and what was the result?

Other Jews withdrew or dissembled along with Peter, and even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy. The result was that they separated themselves and would not eat with the Gentile believers, prompting Paul to confront Peter over his inconsistent testimony.

Les explains that Peter, as an ordinary practicing Jew, had a moment of weakness among Gentile believers and blew his testimony again, so Paul had to call him on it. Because of what Peter did, other Jews dissembled or withdrew likewise with him. Even Barnabas, who had seen what Paul was accomplishing among the Gentiles, was carried away with their dissimulation or hypocrisy. The practical result was that they could not eat with these Gentiles.

Galatians 2:13
