What effect did Peter's withdrawal have on the other Jews and Barnabas?

Peter's withdrawal led other Jews to dissemble and withdraw with him. Because of his example, they separated from Gentile believers. The influence spread so far that Barnabas also was carried away by their dissimulation, or hypocrisy, and they would not eat with the Gentiles.

Les explains that Peter, as an ordinary practicing Jew, acted in a moment of weakness among Gentile believers and compromised his testimony again, so Paul had to confront him. Other Jews followed Peter's example and dissembled or withdrew with him. Even Barnabas, who had seen what Paul was accomplishing among the Gentiles, was carried away with their dissimulation or hypocrisy, to the point that they could not eat with these Gentiles.

Galatians 2:13

And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
