Why did Jesus perform miracles during His earthly ministry?

Jesus performed miracles during His earthly ministry to prove to Israel who He was, because the Jews required a sign. Unlike Gentiles, who were ready to believe upon hearing, the Jewish people needed miraculous signs to be convinced of His identity and legitimacy as the promised Messiah.

Les explains that Christ performed all those miracles in His earthly ministry to prove to Israel who He was. The Jewish mindset required a sign, as seen when Jesus told Capernaum that if Sodom and Gomorrah had witnessed His works, they would have repented in sackcloth and lashes. But the Jews kept saying, 'Show us a sign.' Gentiles, by contrast, were ready to believe upon hearing. Les also points out that even in Paul and Barnabas's ministry, miraculous signs and wonders were necessary to convince the Jews, as recorded in Acts 15, where the multitude listened to the account of what God had wrought among the Gentiles.
