Why did Jesus perform so many signs and miracles during His earthly ministry?

During His earthly ministry, Jesus performed many signs and miracles for the benefit of Israel. Their sole purpose was to convince Israel of who He was. This fit the Jewish demand for a sign, since God had repeatedly performed signs and miracles for the Jew.

Les explains that over and over God performed signs and miracles for the benefit of the Jew. When He came in His earthly ministry, that was the sole reason for His performing the signs and miracles over and over: to convince Israel of who He was. Paul later brings this into the New Testament account, showing that the Jewish mentality was still “show me a sign, and maybe I’ll believe.” The Greeks, by contrast, were hung up on intellectual philosophy. Paul says he adheres to neither approach: he does not come with signs and wonders and miracles, nor does he philosophize, but he preaches Christ crucified.
