Who were the 'wheels' that confronted Paul in Jerusalem in Galatians chapter 2?

The "wheels" in Jerusalem were the headmen of the Jerusalem church—the Twelve and some others, and they were Jewish. They confronted Paul in Galatians chapter 2 as the influential leadership of the Jerusalem church. The term is vernacular for those authorities, not a snide remark.

Les explains that in Galatians chapter 2 Paul is again confronted by what he calls the "wheels" in Jerusalem. He clarifies that he does not say this to make a snide remark, but in our vernacular they were the wheels. They were the headmen of the Jerusalem church, the Twelve and some of the other, and they were Jewish. This confrontation fits the larger point that there had to be a total break between the Twelve and Paul's ministry, because God did not send Paul back to the Twelve to pick up everything they knew.
