Why does a nation need a government according to the Bible?
A nation cannot have law and order or a functioning economy without a government. In the biblical framework, the Abrahamic covenant shows God forming a people, placing them in a land, and promising a King, which requires governance to maintain order and economic life.
Les explains that if you have a nation of people in a geographical area, you cannot have law and order and you cannot have an economy unless you have a government. He ties this to the Abrahamic covenant's three main tenets: God would make from Abraham a nation of people, put them in their own geographical area of land, and at some future day be their King in the person of God in the flesh—the promised Messiah and Redeemer. Les also places this within the prophetic program, from Abraham's call around 2000 BC until Christ's first advent, before the church age interrupts it. True prophecy, he notes, almost always puts God's promises in a specific time frame.
