Why did God need to come and set up the government in the Promised Land?
The Promised Land required government because people in a geographical area cannot have a functioning society without it; otherwise anarchy results. The Abrahamic Covenant promised Israel both a nation and a land, and then God Himself would come at some point to set up that government.
Les explains that after God promised Abraham a nation and placed them in a geographical area, God Himself would eventually come and set up the government. He says you cannot have people in a geographical area without government, or you have anarchy; a functioning society requires government. This fits the Abrahamic Covenant prospect that out of Israel would come a King who would rule Israel and extend that rule to the whole planet through Israel. Israel became a nation in Egypt, came out under Moses, entered the Promised Land under Joshua, was ruled by judges for 400-some years, then asked for a king; Saul flopped, and David followed.
