Where did Jesus go during the three days after He died?
After His death, Jesus went to paradise, the side of Sheol/Hades where the saints waited, not to torment. He told the thief, 'Today thou shalt be with me in paradise.' He spent three days and three nights there before ascending and leading captivity captive.
Les explains that during the three days and three nights after His death, Christ was in paradise, not torment. In the account where Abraham speaks of a great gulf fixed, Sheol, Hades, or hell is divided: one side is torment, the other paradise. Jesus promised the thief, 'Today thou shalt be with me in paradise.' He joined the saints waiting for the great work of atonement. Since the atoning blood had been shed and Christ died, He spent those three days and three nights in paradise. Then, as Paul writes in Ephesians 4:8, when He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive.
