Why is religious freedom to study the Bible something we should not take for granted?
It is a rare commodity, not a guarantee. In the last century more Christians were martyred than in all the eras since Christ, and many regions still suffer for their faith. The ability to sit without fear and study the Word of God is something much of the world longs for, so it should prompt gratitude.
Les explains that America has been blessed with liberties, freedoms, and guarantees of freedom, but too often people do not stop to think that this is a rare commodity. He notes that in the last 100 years more Christians have been martyred than in all the other periods back to the time of Christ, and that many areas of the world would love to be able to sit down without fear and study the Word of God. So we should never fail to thank God for such a place of liberty and opportunity.
