How poor did Jesus become?
For our sakes He became poor—so poor that He had no place to lay His head, no wealthy home to return to. That was the material realm. In the spiritual realm He went far deeper into absolute poverty, as Philippians 2:6–7 describes, a depth beyond human comprehension.
Les teaches that Christ, though rich in all the wealth of the universe, became poor for our sakes—for the carnal believers of Corinth and for every believer. His material poverty was so graphic that He could say foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man had no place to lay His head; He had no wealthy home to return to. Les stresses, however, that this was only the material realm. In the spiritual realm He went far deeper into absolute poverty, as Philippians 2:6–7 shows: being in the form of God, He thought it not robbery to be equal with God, because He was God. Les calls this beyond human comprehension, yet it is what the Word declares.
