How did Jesus go deeper into poverty in the spiritual realm?

Though He was in the form of God and equal with God, He went far deeper into absolute spiritual poverty than material lack. Scripture declares in Philippians 2:6–7 that for believers’ sakes He became poor, a depth beyond human comprehension, even though all the wealth of the universe was His.

Les explains that Christ possessed all the wealth of the universe, yet for the sake of the carnal believers at Corinth and any believer, He became poor—so poor He could say foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man had no place to lay His head. That was a graphic illustration in the material realm. But in the spiritual realm He went far, far deeper into absolute poverty, as Philippians 2:6–7 shows. There He is described as being in the form of God and thinking it not robbery to be equal with God, because He was God. It is beyond human comprehension, yet it is what the Word declares.
