Can a person ever outgive God?
No, a person cannot outgive God. When giving is done with the right attitude and by faith, God is able to respond, but not through a name-it-and-claim-it formula. Scripture does not teach that a specific gift guarantees a multiplied cash return. Giving must be viewed through God's big-picture provision, not immediate return in kind.
Les explains that he is not a name-it-and-claim-it teacher and does not claim that giving $1,000 a year means God will pour back $3,000; the Bible does not teach that. He says we cannot outgive God when we give with the right attitude and by faith. There is a fine line between faith and fantasy: faith trusts God to respond, but fantasy expects a foolish, automatic multiplied return, such as giving $500 to get $50,000. Les qualifies that giving does not always have to return immediately in kind. God can spare potential expenses—an old car may go another 50,000 miles, or a person may have few medical expenses, which he calls the payback. The big picture is how God will respond, not “if I give $100 will I get $500 back.”
