What happened after Paul wrote to the Corinthians about the immoral man?
The Corinthians dealt with the immorality. When we come to the second letter, they had dealt with it: they brought the man evidently back into fellowship, his sin was naturally forgiven and cleansed, and the letter had done its work.
Les explains that the Corinthians were initially doing nothing about the gross immorality; they were puffed up and even gloating over it. Paul, present in spirit, had already judged the man and instructed them to deliver him to satan for the destruction of the flesh, not the soul—physical death if he would not straighten up. The whole church was guilty because they were glorying in it, and a little leaven permeates the whole loaf. They had to deal with it. When we come to the second letter, they did: they dealt with it, brought the man evidently back into fellowship, his sin was naturally forgiven and cleansed, and the letter had done its work.
Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.
