How did the Corinthian church respond to the immoral man among them?

The Corinthian church responded by dealing with the immoral individual. The majority voted to address the situation, bringing him to forgiveness and restoration rather than ignoring it. Paul had written to test their obedience, and they acted to prevent Satan from gaining an advantage.

Les explains that Paul wrote to the Corinthians to address this immoral situation and to get the man straightened out. He wanted to show the proof of their obedience in all things. The church responded, and the majority voted to deal with the individual and bring him to a place of forgiveness and restoration. Les points out that this restoration was meant to keep Satan from getting the upper hand, not just over that individual but for all of them, since they were not ignorant of Satan's devices. Paul had no power to forgive sin himself, but in the name of Christ he could concur with their forgiveness and restoration of the individual.
