Why did Paul tell the Corinthians he was not speaking to condemn them?
Paul told the Corinthians he was not speaking to condemn them because he loved them deeply and held them in his heart, desiring to live and die with them. Even though they had accused and criticized him, he continued to love them and did not want to condemn them.
Les explains that Paul had been accused of various things, and he was simply reiterating that the accusations were not true. In verse 3, Paul says, 'I speak not this to condemn you, for I've said before that you are in our hearts to die and live with you.' Les points out that Paul was so full of love for these Corinthians that in spite of all the bad things they said about him, he still loved them. It wasn't always easy, but he did. He even bragged about them to his other congregations, telling the people at Ephesus that he had a great bunch of people at Corinth who had problems, but he loved every one of them. His motive was love, not condemnation.
I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.
