What is the condition for God being a Father to us and calling us sons and daughters?

Scripture teaches that, by God’s saving grace, believers must separate themselves from the ungodly world around them. When they do, God becomes a Father to them and calls them sons and daughters, establishing their relationship with Him as members of the Body of Christ.

Les explains that 2 Corinthians 7:1 follows the promises just given in chapter 6. The condition is that, as a result of God’s saving grace, we have the wherewithal to separate ourselves from the ungodly world around us; then God will be a Father unto us, and He will call us sons and daughters. That is our relationship with God as members of the Body of Christ. Because we have these promises, we are to cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting or growing in maturity in holiness in the fear of God.
