How are believers related to God as Father and as sons and daughters?

When believers, enabled by God's saving grace, separate themselves from the ungodly world, God becomes a Father to them and calls them sons and daughters. This father-child relationship belongs to members of the Body of Christ and rests on those promises.

Les explains that in 2 Corinthians 7:1, Paul says, "having therefore these promises," and reminds them of what he just said in chapter 6. If believers have the wherewithal, as a result of God's saving grace, to separate themselves from the ungodly world around them, then God will be a Father unto them. He will call them sons and daughters, and that is their relationship with God as members of the Body of Christ. Because they have these promises, Paul urges them, as dearly beloved, to cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting or growing in maturity in holiness in the fear of God.

2 Corinthians 6:18

And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
