Can unbelievers be morally better than Christians?

Moral superiority is possible for unbelievers. They may be perfectly good people and morally better than many Christians could ever hope to be. Yet they remain unbelievers, without God and without faith. And without faith, it is impossible to please God.

Les teaches that Paul’s warning about separation and being unequally yoked with unbelievers does not mean unbelievers are awful or bad. The word “ungodly” means “without God,” not necessarily someone in gross sin. An unbeliever may be an exemplary citizen, a perfectly good person, and morally better than many Christians could ever hope to be, but they are still unbelievers. They are without faith, and without faith it is impossible to please God. This is not describing two totally diverse people, as if a Christian marries someone only from the gutter.
