Why did Paul say he would give no offense in anything?

Paul said he would give no offense in anything so that the ministry of reconciliation could never be blamed. He wanted to keep it blameless, preventing the devil and the world from seizing on faults or failures to discredit it, and avoiding any cause for accusation.

Les explains that Paul was constantly aware of the danger that the devil would besmirch or put a smudge on a ministry. If the devil can convince the world of our faults and failures, he gloats and the world gloats. Paul did not want anything to cause people to say, 'Look what he's doing,' and he wanted to keep the ministry blameless as much as he could possibly do so. He was not going to give offense in anything, lest someone could turn around and accuse him—truthfully or untruthfully—since he constantly had to defend his apostleship and was constantly being falsely accused.
