Les Feldick Bible Study

What happens to old appetites and the old life when God creates someone anew?

When God creates a person anew, their appetites and lifestyle change. Old things pass away, including old appetites, and everything becomes new and different. Behavior, attitude, and desires shift because the person is a new creation, though this does not mean sinless perfection or a visible halo.

Les teaches that every believer suddenly has a change of appetites, a change of lifestyle, a change in behavior, and a change in attitude because they are a new person, different from what they were. This does not give a halo or make them sinless, but they are now the result of a creative work of a Creator God and have a whole new concept in life. Les illustrates this with a young man his same age who spent every Saturday night in the tavern and bar, then came to his class and asked why he never saw Les in the bar on Saturday night. Les answered, for the same reason he did not see him in church on Sunday morning. Their lifestyle and appetites are totally different, as different as daylight and dark. Les says this is why he questions professing Christians who see nothing wrong with doing everything the world does. There must be a change in attitude and behavior; if there is no change, he doubts anything happened. If we are the work of a creative act of God, then old things are passed away, those old appetites, and everything becomes new and different. That is the first thing he looks for. He never says anything about leading someone to Christ until he sees that change in lifestyle. When the change is genuine, he can rejoice that the person has come to know the Lord and has experienced being born again.
