What are the three parts of man's makeup according to Genesis?

According to Genesis, man’s makeup consists of three parts: the physical body, which is visible and can be touched, and two invisible parts, the soul and the spirit. The body functions visibly, while the soul and spirit are the inner, unseen areas of man’s makeup.

Les explains that when you go back to Genesis, man was created with a physical body that can be seen, touched, and used to function. But within that body are two other areas of man’s makeup that are invisible: the soul and the spirit. So the three parts are the visible body and the invisible soul and spirit. This connects to the broader point that people are separated from God and dead spiritually, yet many try to earn eternal life by works instead of admitting that separation.
