What will believers receive at the judgment seat of Christ?
At the judgment seat of Christ, believers will receive according to what they have done in the body, whether good or bad. Works done with right motive—loving the Lord and seeking His glory—will count for reward; works done to display self will count for nothing, as wood, hay, and stubble.
Les explains that this judgment seat is only for believers; there will be no unbelievers there. Every believer must appear before the judgment seat of Christ and receive the things done in his body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. Les teaches that it is not so much about how much we have done as the motivation behind what we have done. If a person taught only to show people what he knows, it would count for nothing. The motive must be right: doing it because we love the Lord and because He will receive the glory. Then it will count for reward. If we do things to show people how much we can accomplish, it will count for nothing—nothing more than wood, hay, and stubble. This is the whole concept of working for reward, also seen in I Corinthians chapter 3.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
