What did the Old Testament high priest have to do every year to open the way to God?

Every year the Old Testament high priest had to present the blood. Under the law almost all things were purged by blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission or forgiveness. This blood-sprinkled way was the only thing that opened the way for man to approach God; no other approach existed.

Les explains from Hebrews 9:22 that under the law almost all things were purged by blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no remission or forgiveness. Going back to the Old Testament tabernacle, the high priest had to present the blood every year. That blood was the only thing that opened the way up for man to approach God. There is no other way; there is no approach to God other than the blood-sprinkled way. He also notes that this is an absolute that cannot be compromised or detoured, even though some liberal circles and denominations dislike the blood-bought way of salvation and have removed hymns that reference the blood. Without faith we cannot please Him, and without the shedding of blood we cannot please Him.

Hebrews 9:22

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
