How do we recognize sin and how do we deal with sin?
Recognition comes by faith: unless we believe what God says about certain activities, we do not know they are sin; when God says it and we believe it, we know. Dealing with sin also rests on faith, which guides salvation and the entire daily Christian walk according to what the book says.
Les explains that the way to recognize sin and deal with it is summed up in one word: faith. Unless a person can believe what God says about certain activities or acts, that person does not know it is sin; but when God says it and one believes it, then one knows what it is. He ties this to exhorting one another daily while it is called today, lest any be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. The whole daily walk is prompted by faith in God. Romans 3:23 says all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and Les calls believing that about oneself the first step in salvation—taking God at His Word concerning myself and you. Faith guides not only into salvation but all through the Christian experience, based on what the book says, not what someone else says. He notes he does not have to condemn this or that because when people get into the book and see what it says by faith, they will take appropriate action.
