How should people be convicted of their sin?
People should be convicted of their sin by realizing what the Word says. Rather than using guilt trips or trying to legislate morality, the Word itself takes care of conviction when people are brought into it and taught Scripture, not by getting on their case about specific behaviors.
Les explains that in his years of teaching, he never spoke against drinking, smoking, cursing, gambling, and illicit sex, yet a student came out of a fast-lane lifestyle simply by being taught the Word. Les teaches that you don't have to get on people's cases about their drinking or immorality; the Word takes care of it. He warns that many have gone astray by trying to legislate morality and bring people in on a guilt trip. Yes, people must be found guilty, but by realizing what the Word says. Paul did not look for gimmicks or a Madison Avenue approach; he simply preached the Gospel.
