How did God say He would drive out the Canaanites from the promised land?
God said He would use hornets and other means to drive out the Canaanites. He would not drive them all out at once, so wild animals would not take over, but would drive them out just fast enough for the people to occupy the homes, wells, and vineyards.
Les explains that after the miraculous exodus from Egypt, the crossing of the Red Sea on dry ground, the cloud by day and pillar of fire by night, and the thunder, lightning, and fire on Mount Sinai, the people came to the borders of the promised land, the land of milk and honey. God said He would use hornets as well as other means to drive out the Canaanites, and all they had to do was go in and occupy. Les points out that God would not drive them all out at once, because the wild animals might take over before they arrived. Instead, He would drive them out just fast enough so they could occupy the homes, wells, and vineyards already there. Les then directs attention to Deuteronomy, where Moses rehearses what had gone on before.
