What did the congregation of Israel do in Numbers chapter 14 verse 1?

In Numbers 14:1, the whole congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. The children of Israel also murmured against Moses and Aaron, expressing a wish that they had died in Egypt or in the wilderness.

Les explains that Numbers chapter 14 arrives after the cloud lifted and directed the children of Israel up to the border of the promised land, the land of milk and honey. At this point, it is a sad state of affairs. Verse 1 records that all the congregation lifted up their voice and cried, and the people wept that night. The children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron. Les notes that this murmuring was nothing new, since they had been doing it almost since the day they left. The whole congregation also said they wished they had died in Egypt or in the wilderness.
