Where did Moses lead Israel in Numbers 22 after the wilderness wanderings?

After the forty years of wilderness wanderings, Moses led Israel around to the southeast of Canaan, through the land of Moab. They came by the east side of the Jordan River, opposite the Dead Sea, so they could enter Canaan from the east.

Les explains that Numbers 22 comes after Israel ended its forty years of wilderness wanderings. Moses led the people around to the southeast of Canaan and through Moab so they could approach from the east side of the Jordan River, opposite the Dead Sea. As they came across Moab, the king of Moab was shaken and sent for the false prophet Balaam. Moab complained that the Israelite company would lick up everything around them like an ox licks up grass. Balaam was called from Pethor, by the river. Later, from a high mountain, Balaam was told he could not see the end of them; they went beyond the horizon, showing not a few thousand but several million.
