Why did Paul go from Asia Minor over to Europe?

Paul crossed from Asia Minor into Europe because the Spirit gave him a vision directing him to go over into Macedonia. This was a divine appointment, not an accident. The purpose was so people like Lydia, a seller of purple from Thyatira, could hear the Word and have her heart opened by the Lord.

Les explains that Paul’s move from Asia Minor to Europe was not accidental but a divine appointment. In Acts 16, the Spirit gave Paul a vision to go over into Macedonia, directing him to the European continent. On the Sabbath, Paul and his companions went out of the city by a riverside where prayer was made and spoke to the women gathered there. A woman named Lydia, a seller of purple from Thyatira who worshipped God, heard them, and the Lord opened her heart. Les points out that if Paul had not come to that riverside on that Sabbath, she would never have heard the Word. From her viewpoint she was in the right place at the right time, but behind it was the sovereign God.

Acts 16:9
