What happens to those who do not have heart faith in the gospel?

Those who have only head knowledge and not true heart faith in the gospel face an eternal doom; they are lost, and their end is described as awful. Such a person misses heaven despite mental agreement, because true belief must be heart belief, not mere assent.

Les explains that believing, trusting, and having faith in the gospel means true heart belief, not just head knowledge. He notes the expression that many people miss heaven by twelve inches—they had it in the head but never got it in the heart. He says God must open a person's ability to believe and trust their whole eternal destiny on it. For those without that kind of heart faith, there is an eternal doom coming; it will be awful for the lost, and this cannot be compromised. By contrast, for those who believe, it begins in the heart.
