What happens to people who will not believe the gospel?

Those who will not believe the gospel stand under the anathema of a holy God, who is angered by their unbelief. They do not believe that Christ did everything a holy God could demand, so they have no part in the work of the cross.

Les explains that the gospel is faith plus nothing. If a person tries to add anything to the gospel of grace, such as circumcision or human merit, they cancel the work of the cross, and Christ profits them nothing. He warns that multitudes of church people are doing this, saying they cannot be saved unless they do this or that. But the ultimate issue is unbelief: if we will not believe that Christ died and rose from the dead and did everything a holy God could demand, then we stand under the anathema of a holy God who is angered by our unbelief. Les says this is what faith is all about—recognizing that God has said it and responding, 'God, I believe it.'
