Does God tolerate competition from idols?

No, God does not tolerate competition from idols. He alone is the supreme God, and He will not give in to any rival. This truth underpins the first commandments, calling people to love Him with all their heart, soul, and mind.

Les explains that when we realize God is the supreme God—the one who will not give in to competition from idols, who created everything, and who set up the home—it is intrinsic for us to love Him. In Matthew 22, Jesus answered the lawyer by naming the first and great commandment: love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul, and mind. The second is like it: love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two hang all the law and the promise. Les also notes the first five commandments relate to God's approach to us, and the home is part of God's plan for the ages.
