Where does Les place the Sabbath commandment among the Ten Commandments?
The Sabbath commandment is placed among the first five of the Ten Commandments, the group dealing with man’s relationship to God. It is kept there because the command contains the connecting phrase “the Lord thy God,” unlike the final five, which address man’s relationship with man.
Les teaches that although some groups put the Sabbath commandment with the final six commandments as part of man’s relationship with man, he prefers to keep it with the first five on the board. He ties it there because of the statement in verse 10, “the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God.” That phrase “the Lord thy God” serves as the connecting link, so the first five are man’s relationship with God, while the other five are man’s relationship with man because the Lord thy God is not included in them. He also notes that part of the Sabbath command is six days you shall work, and the seventh you rest.
