Which of the Ten Commandments are connected with the phrase 'I am the Lord thy God'?
The first five of the Ten Commandments are connected with the phrase “I am the Lord thy God.” The last five commandments do not include that statement. In the text, it appears at verse 2 and again with the second commandment in verse 5.
Les teaches that all five of the first commandments are connected with the statement “I am the Lord thy God,” while the last five never mention it. He notes verse 2 begins with that phrase, introducing the command to have no other gods before Him, and it is repeated in connection with the second commandment against graven images and bowing down to them. He then moves to verse 5, where God says He is a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Him.
I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
