How does God deal with the Jewish people?

God deals with the Jewish people on two levels: national and personal. Nationally, He upholds covenant promises given to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—that Israel becomes a great nation in its own land with God as King. Personally, He conditions blessing on obedience and faith, as the word 'if' shows, while a remnant escapes by His sovereign providence.

Les explains that God always brings up His covenants, and while there is more than one, they all boil down to the one master covenant God made with Abraham, repeated to Isaac and repeated to Jacob. That covenant promised Israel would become a great nation of people, dwell in their own land, and one day God would be their king and government. In Exodus 19, God says, 'If you will obey my voice indeed and keep my covenant.' The word 'if' is conditional, showing Israel is left with free will even under a sovereign God. Faith and obedience become almost synonymous. Les emphasizes that God deals with the Jew on two levels: national and personal. The nation is to be aware of the covenant and obedient in preparing for its fulfillment. Also, a remnant of Israel will escape by virtue of a providential, sovereign God, just as miraculously as if they took wings and flew.
