What did God promise in the covenant He made with Abraham?
God promised that Israel would become a great nation of people, dwell in their own land, and one day have God as their king and government. This master covenant was made with Abraham, then repeated to Isaac and Jacob, and Israel was to obey in preparation for its fulfillment.
Les teaches that God always brings up these covenants. There is more than one covenant, but they all boil down to the one master covenant made with Abraham, repeated to Isaac, and repeated to Jacob. That covenant promised that Israel would become a great nation of people, dwell in their own land, and one day God would be their king and government. Israel was to be aware of this covenant and obedient in preparing for its fulfillment and in being used of God as it originally intended. In Exodus 19, the conditional word “if” shows Israel still had free will even under a sovereign God, and faith and obedience become almost synonymous. God deals with the Jew on both a national and a personal level.
