What happens when a person comes into a right relationship with God?
Upon entering a right relationship with God, a person becomes born again and a child of God, partaking of the living water. Immediately the old flesh begins warring against the new nature, a conflict pictured by the Amalekites fighting Israel.
Les explains that just as soon as a person comes into that right relationship with God, they become born again, or a child of God, and partake of the living water. Then the old flesh begins the war, and the flesh wars against the new nature. Les sees the Amalekites as a picture of the flesh warring against the spiritual, fitting the setting where Israel's God-provided water became the point of conflict. Paul says such things are written for our learning and practical experience, not so much for doctrine.
